Mytholmroyd Mythology

Mytholmroyd Mythology

Still Life

Mytholmroyd phalanx—
Miserly monolith standing
Alone on the moors—
Down by the sea
Heathcliff looming—
Sullen stone in the wind
Running over his worn—
Stonehenge face

He pays no rent—
An Easter Island statue
Rough wet in the rain—
Looking out over the sea
He’s a landmark now—
Moody silent like the
Planets sleeping above—
Expecting nothing at all

Standing next to him—
Trembling from the cold
He’s been sleeping since—
The Bronze Age long ago
