Sylvia on the Moors

Sylvia on the Moors
__________________

The Calder Valley—
A deep gorge running thru
The Pennine Mountains
West Yorkshire hillsides
Rising steeply to plateau
On the wild moorland

Sylvia like Emily Brontë—
Hughes like some brooding
Heathcliff sullen moody
Mytholmroyd man of moors
Making everything slightly
Unpleasant about him

Ages of forgotten darkness—
Elmet last Celtic Kingdom
Lost invasions, symbolic
Salmon, hawks and eagles
Calder valley mythology
The Kingdom of Elmet

Sylvia typing away—
Incessantly autobiographical
Carefully nursing her neat
Wellesley writings about life
Hunting & pecking away on
Her keyboard on the moors
